Numbers are in….

Friday, June 5th, 2009

What a long day yesterday, but finally I have results.

First, Scott at Can-Alignment did a fantastic job on the alignment.  Final specs are as follows;

-2° camber
+3.8° caster
1/8″ toe out
(total)

Caster and camber were maxed out, but evened both sides.

Car was also weighed, and corner balanced.  Final weight was 3091 lbs (with 1/2 tank fuel), 50% cross weight, and a final F/R weight distribution of 56/44.  I was hoping to be lighter than that, but it is what it is.

On to the DL Motorsports for the dyno tuning;  Once Dan loaded up a default tune for the car, we ran a baseline run to get the Air/Fuel ratio.  From that point, he tweaked the tables to bring it down to a 12.5 ratio @ WOT from 2500 to 5500 RPM.  Final result was 290 RWHP (approx 335 crank HP), and 328 RWTQ (approx. 380 crank TQ).  Very happy with that for a stock LT1 with some minor bolt ons.

But, something else cropped up;  A nasty “bounce” when the rear wheels are spinning, almost like something is egg shaped.  This will be investigated further tomorrow.

Alignment, corner balancing, & Dyno tuning

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Tomorrow (June 4th) I will be spending the day in the Hamilton area.  First thing in the morning at 8 AM, I have appointment with Scott Murfin at Can-Alignment to get the car aligned, and corner balanced & weighed.  Scott is an expert in the field of setting up track cars.  I was there a couple times before with my 86 Camaro and he does a fantastic job.

Later that day, I will be headed to DL Motorsports in Burlington to get the car dyno tuned.  My buddy Dan will be coming down from Waterloo, is an expert with LT1 tuning and will be tweaking the snot out of the beast.  Then I will get my 3 referrence pulls for the CASC Classification in case I need it.

I will be posting pictures and videos of the day.

This Sunday, June 7th, I have organized a lapping session at the Dunnville Autodrome to shake down the car before the CASc SoloSprint event the following weekend at Shannonville Motorsports Park.  Should be a good time.  Pics & video will follow that also. :)

Progress Report

Monday, May 11th, 2009

It looks like I will NOT be making the first weekend of the season which is May 23-24, nor will I be able to make my scheduled May 21st appointments for alignment, corner balancing, and dyno tuning, mostly due to budgetary constraints.   Sad but true.

There are still a bunch of small things to do to the car;

  • fabricate dash DONE – May 23
  • install all gaugesDONE 0 May 30
  • finish hood pin install - DONE – May 18
  • fabricate heat shields for under car gas lines (exhaust runs a little too close)DONE – May 31
  • fabricate heat shield for wires along side the right headerDONE – June 2
  • fabricate rear seat support to harness bar DONE – May 12
  • fabricate seat mounts for passenger side
  • install 5-point harness belts for both sides
  • install battery box & batteryDONE – May 24
  • wire electrical for entire carDONE – May 31
  • install drive beltDONE – May 30
  • install thermostat, & fill engine with waterDONE – May 30
  • run an engine oil flushDONE – June 2
  • oil & filter change with AMSOIL Dominator 10w30 Racing Oil & WIX Racing Filter - DONE – June 2
  • paint car interior
  • apply all decalsDONE – June 2
  • fabricate/construct new racing steering column – DONE -  May 16
  • change rear springs – DONE -  May 17
  • weld on rear lower control arm relocation brackets – DONE – May 17
  • replace rear lower control arms – DONE – May 17

As you can see, it’s all fairly small items, but time consuming.

Looks like I will only be ready for the 2nd weekend which is on June 13-14.  Time, and money will tell.

Take care.

Quick Update

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

As you can see, the old site was ditched, and now I have to redo it using this look.  It’ll be awhile. :)

The car is SLOWLY coming along.  Doubt it’ll be ready for the first event which is only 2.5 weeks away. :(

The MadDog Garage cam will be up soon, will live streaming of the work.
